He was chasing a butterfly.
The other day, while enjoying some fresh air out on his family’s rooftop terrace at home in Quito, Ecuador, this dog evidently noticed a colorful little stranger flutter into view.

It was a butterfly — and the pup’s curiosity was thoroughly piqued. A playful chase quickly ensued. But it ended just as fast.

“He was so entertained that, without realizing it, he jumped [off the roof] and got stuck in the wires of a pole,” the Quito Fire Department wrote in a post.

The dog had clearly miscalculated things.
The overhead wires had prevented a likely injurious fall to the street below, but now the pup was stuck.

Fortunately, however, the dog’s owners were there to witness the whole harrowing incident.

They called the fire department for help.

With their truck in place beneath the dog, rescuers were able to carry him to safety.

“With extreme caution, we managed to get the intrepid puppy down and reunite him with his relieved family,” the fire department wrote.
The dog had been bested by a butterfly — learning a valuable lesson on gravity in the process. Hopefully, it’s one he and his family don’t take lightly, or, as the fire department puts it:

“This incident reminds us of the importance of taking care of our pets.”
